The political effects of World War 2 ranged from countries coming together to the trial of Nazi officials. At the beginning of WW2, Italy and Russia was sided with Germany, but Germany later attacked Russia in 1941 and Italy had to sign the Italian Armistice in 1943. The Allies were America, Britain, France,China and later Russia.

After WW2, Germany was divided into four parts that were shared between the US, France, Britain and Russia. Russia controlled the largest part, known as eastern Germany. The west was controlled by the US, Britain and France. Later in 1949, the US, France and Britain left Germany and it became the Federal Republic of Germany. Russia however, continued to occupy the east until 1990. Russia set up a puppet government called the German Democratic Republic and claimed to be fully sovereign.
